"Poopie Hide"

Hide and seek is one of Colby's (Poopie's) favorite games right now. He loves to tell us he's hiding, and then he runs off to another room for us to find him. I gotta say, his hiding places are pretty amazing for a 2 year old. I know he's our son and all, so I don't want to brag too much, but you really have to see this for yourself. When you scroll down, you'll see a picture of Colby's favorite hiding place, and I want you to see how long it takes you to spot him.

Words

Colby has really been amazing us (and making us laugh) with his talking lately. It's all happening so fast, and I'm afraid I'm not paying as much attention as I should be (with the new distraction here and all). I listed some of his sayings a couple months ago, but here are some new ones. He was in a particularly chatty mood tonight, so we got him to repeat some of them for the camera. (It's a long one...maybe one of those videos best suited for grandparents)

Here's some of what you'll hear:

Bandaaaid: Bandaid said with a very southern drawl
Poopie: Colby (He often refers to himself in the 3rd person: ex: Poopie fall down)
Baby doodoo: baby sister
Bee cereal: cheerios
Mama dooooo or dada dooooo: What he says when he needs us to do something
Bayo: raspberries or strawberries
Weird throaty noise: This is his word for juice. It's the weirdest thing you've ever heard, and there's no way anyone else would know what he's saying
Pop pop: Lollypop

So without further ado, here is Colby and his words.

My little helper

This morning, I was putting some clean clothes on Miller and asked Colby if he would please put her onesie in the dirty clothes basket. He ran excitedly into the bathroom with the onesie, and then ran back out with a very proud look on his face. I praised him for being such a helper and taking care of Miller's clothes. He just smiled and then looked lovingly at his baby sister. Imagine my surprise when a few minutes later, I went to the bathroom and almost peed on a onesie that was floating in the toilet bowl.

Never trust a two year old.

A little about me...

I have really lucked out with the birth of Miller; it was easy. It was quick. Recovery has been a breeze. I've been thinking how lucky I've been to be feeling so well, both physically and emotionally. I don't have any post-pardum depression.

HOWEVER, there's one thing that I should note....one strange behavior that has emerged.

I am OBSESSED with doing laundry.

Ever since Miller's birth, all I can think about is when I'm going to start that next load. Even in the hospital, I was asking Lee if he would take home the shirt and pants I wore to the hospital and wash them. Right now, I'm doing at least 2 loads a day, and they are not full loads...I think I'm washing about 4 shirts right now. I was not like this before she was born! I do realize this is wasteful, but I can't help myself. When we go out to dinner, or to the park, or anywhere, I watch Colby (or Lee) making a mess and think about when I can strip them of their clothes and do another load. It's almost as if gaining control of my life will happen when that next load goes in and everything is clean....

I do realize this is irrational and obsessive behavior. I'm one load away from becoming a crazy cat lady. Does acknowledging it make me any less crazy?

The First Meeting

Well, one thing is for sure...having 2 kids is harder than 1. (Which explains my lack of updates) I usually post in the evenings, but Miller likes to have a marathon nursing session from about 7-10. Lee thinks the laptop will cause her to grow a third arm, so I'm forbidden to use the computer when she's on my lap.

Things are going very well, and Miller weighed 10lbs 12 oz at her 2 week checkup. I'm sure she's above 11 lbs by now at 3 weeks. Of course, there have been some hairy and hectic moments, usually involving 2 hungry kids and only one parent around to feed them, but that's par for the course I guess.

We started swaddling Miller again, and it has worked wonders. Last night, she slept from 10 to 5:30!!!! This is probably also the result of her marathon nursing session, but whatever it is, I'm doing it again. We've gotten rid of the chair and she's actually sleeping on her back- yay! Now, I'm just hoping and praying that she doesn't develop the horrendous colic and gastro problems that Colby had....time will tell.

Here are some pictures from the past week.

"Peep-eye" Miller came to visit, and Colby enjoyed every minute of it. (we call her "peep-eye" Miller so that he knows the difference between her and baby Miller) They played "peep-eye" on the couch, which Colby can't get enough of.

The 2 Millers....ages 94 and 2 weeks. (shhh....she'd kill me for telling you her age)

Colby continues to be the sweetest big brother EVER.

Toddler Love

Yesterday, Lee and Colby were at the grocery store, and Lee introduced Colby to the gumball machines. Not for a gumball, but for a sticker....don't you remember how thrilling that used to be? Lee made a big production of it, and Colby came home proudly wearing a Sylvester the cat sticker on his shirt. All day long.

Fast forward to last night. I was feeding Miller on the couch, and Colby was smothering her with hugs, kisses, more hugs, face plants, etc. Then, he got off the couch and stared down at his sticker. He gently and carefully peeled it off of his shirt....and placed it on Miller's shirt.

DOES IT GET ANY SWEETER THAN THAT????

Bouncy Seats....

They aren't just for babies any more.

Colby continues to amaze us with his enthusiasm and affection for his "baby di-duh". He is constantly trying to hug and kiss her, and we are constantly trying to keep his hands washed! He's also thoroughly enjoying her musical baby seats and toys. Here he is grooving to the tunes of his favorite bouncy chair. (you may need to turn the volume all the way up to hear anything)

Our first outing....and pictures

We attempted our first outing with 2 kids a few days ago, and if I had to choose just one word to describe it, it would be: DISASTROUS.

We started out with a few strikes against us. Lee and I were completely sleep deprived. (More on that later) Colby was over-hungry and over-tired. We decided to turn our day around by going to the local upscale mall for lunch. (very upscale...as in, NOT kid friendly) I was going to type a detailed description of events, but honestly, I don't have the energy for that. Just picture me carting a baby and Lee carrying a kicking and screaming toddler while snooty onlookers gave us dirty looks. I could almost hear what they were thinking....

"How dare you interrupt my peaceful shopping experience with your crying children. There's no food court here! There's no play area! For crying out loud, there's not even a Dippin' Dots! You kids are not welcome!"

Needless to say, we didn't even have lunch. We sat down in the restaurant and ended up leaving before we even ordered food. Honestly though, this was our fault, not Colby's. We should have known better than to attempt this when the morning hadn't gone so well.

As for Miller, she is quite the picky night time sleeper. She doesn't like to have her arms swaddled, and she doesn't like sleeping flat on her back. (those 2 things are what got Colby through his entire infancy) We have gotten creative with seats and various chairs, and last night I caved and put her in our bed. How did she know where she was? She only woke twice to eat and had one of her best nights yet.

It's a good thing she's cute...I guess they make babies that way for a reason. One of my friends came over yesterday and took some newborn shots, and here's a little preview of her photos.
