The last days of Winter

I don't consider myself a crafty mom. In fact, I'm quite the opposite most of the time. However, I felt I needed to redeem myself after an embarrassing Valentine's Day at the kids' preschool last year. We were getting ready to move, I was dealing with the house build, so Valentine's Day fell off of my radar until the day before. We ran out to the drug store and there was nothing left....except a few pieces of candy. What's a mom to do? I bought all the remaining candy scraps I could find and wrote the kids' names on them in a black sharpie. I had NO idea that they would be getting adorable hand crafted valentines from their friends. Cute cards, cellophane bags full of treats, names spelled out in puffy letter stickers. Oops. Total parenting fail.

So this year, I knew I had to redeem myself. I didn't come up with this idea myself, but I did find it, print it on card stock, cut them out, and glue on the bugs. That's something, right? Colby worked very hard at picking out which bug went to which friend and signing his name. They say "Happy Valentine's Day love bug."

Ta-dah!

They are both very proud of their work, and look at the expression on Miller's face. She totally loves and admires her big brother.

So much.

And thank goodness, shortly after Valentine's Day, we finally got some snow. I'm not complaining about the lack of snow, but this was one year that I actually had boots and snow suits that fit each kid. And new gloves. And new hats. I was ready. Somehow, I thought that moving to the mountains would mean more snow...but it didn't.

Thankfully, we got about 5 inches and the kids got to test out their new gear.

This is the face of a girl who loves the snow.

The first thing they wanted to do was make a snow angel.

Colby and his dad made a snowman. (Actually, his dad made the snowman and Colby threw snowballs)

Our cool snowman

Apparently the slide is much faster when wet. And you can jump off the swing into the snow which is super cool.

The next day, Lee took the kids to the golf course to meet some of their friends. The boys threw snowballs...

And Miller and Charlie had a deep conversation about the meaning of life. And candy.

So glad we got to experience one good snow, but I am ready for Spring.
